Trump is a bad dream. We need to replace that nightmare with dreams based on love and common sense

Trump is a bully, a hater and an enemy of our Republic. What more does any sane, thinking person need to know?

I KNOW YOU dream, just as I do. I know dreams are extensions of inner hopes and expectations… and sometimes, things that go bump in the night. My dreams, in younger days, were more “me” focused, although I often thought/dreamed/prayed  for good things to befall all those I love.

Now, except for thoughts/dreams/prayers for pain relief or to celebrate some minor achievement, I basically send thoughts/dreams/prays for all those I love, I now always include my country, and the world in which we live.

Look around you. Check out the headlines, the news coverage, the social media comments by friends, and “frienemies “alike. It’s hard not to see the rancor, the social media bickering, the not-so-subtle literary sniping, the name-calling and bullying, the ingrained bitterness…and, might as well write it…the hate.

The United States, this “shining beacon on the hill’ to those seeking democracy’s freedom and “we the people’ philosophy, is hemorrhaging; the first noisemaker sound of the death knell of democracy is audible.

For the record, that is not absurd rhetoric; this nation is at a crossroads, with democracy in the crosshairs of so-called conservatives who are, in fact, not conservative by any stretch of the imagination. They are (time to capitalize for emphasis) MAGA groupies, members of the TRUMP CULT, a fanatical tribe of “aginners” embracing bully-boy tactics rather than calm discourse, juvenile name-calling rather than using listening techniques, and the uncompromised belief that a rich loser in life, love, and politics who has perfected lying to an art form has the answer to all the ills that have encapsulated this nation.

WE ARE ONLY 10-plus months from a defining election to decide the future of America. If you believe Donald Trump is the answer to the nation’s ills – and not just the immigration or abortion or the LBGTQ+ “problem” – then it’s to reflect on who Trump really is, what he represents, and what he would do with a second term.

It is imperative that we all vet the candidates for every elected office; in some cases, intense due diligence is needed, meaning research of available information.

With Trump, little research is necessary: His words speak for themselves.

Trump does not like nor does he see the value of many things, including those disloyal to his philosophy of how to do … well, anything. He demands his followers kneel to what he sees as his mission to mold this country into the United States of Trump. If you think that is a harsh assessment, think of any subject, from immigration to abortion to the military to how to deal with dictators and he has the solution.

Take immigrants, for example. Trump is a second-generation immigrant, and his wealth can be directly attributed to the hard work of his grandfather and father; he has married two immigrants, and his immigrant in-laws lived with him in the White House. Now, however, Trump has stated publicly several times “immigrants are destroying the blood of our country.” (In another speech he substituted “poisoning” for “destroying”.) In this case, “immigrants” is a code word for Hispanics.

It is no coincidence that Adolph Hitler, in his book “Mein Kampf”, wrote, “Blood levels and the resultant drop in racial level is the sole cause of the dying out of old cultures.” Unraveled version: White is right.

Just as Hitler warned Germans about Jews, Trump is using similar words about immigrants to the U.S.

On the subject of abortion, Trump perceives a majority of citizens are for the abolishment of abortion. He is wrong, according to national polls, but he is playing to his base supporters, a majority which come from states with strict anti-abortion laws, but also sites with high infant mortality rates, inadequate mother-and-newborn health services, and little emphasis on supporting child nutrition programs.

AS A BULLY, in the annals of the presidency, Trump has no equal. He called members of the military who were captured, “weak” and called Americans who died in war “losers” and “suckers”. (Don’t take my word! Look it up!)

Just four months ago, Trump advocated the execution of the nation’s top general, Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. Miley’s transgression, according to Trump: On January 6th, during the insurrection at the Capitol, Milley called his counterpart in China to assure him the United States was in no danger of collapse. (It must be noted Milley’s call was approved by Trump Administration officials; Trump only attacked Milley after a cover story on the general appeared in “The Atlantic” magazine. In TrumpLand, upstaging the boss is a sin punishable by death.)

Trump has also taken credit for the “biggest tax cut in history”. Of course, it wasn’t the biggest in history and was mainly geared to the ultra-rich and big companies.

Why would any citizen vote for a man who made fun on national television of a disabled reporter for a foreign news service, disparaged by mimicking an opponent with a lifelong stuttering problem, or hinted he may institute jail time for any woman who gets an abortion, even as a procedure to save the woman’s life?

There is no doubt Trump is planning to dramatically switch the U.S. from a free-spirited democracy to a government structure more to his liking.

As British historian Lord Aston said more than 100 years ago, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”, indicating a person’s sense of morality lessens as his or her power increases.

Trump has tasted the awesome power of the presidency and he craves more. He does not worry about his sense of morality…since that tank is already on zero.
